Gates Foundation Official Lauds Exemplary Polio Eradication Efforts of MERF

Michael Galway, Deputy Director for Polio at the Gates Foundation, accompanied by Dr. Asad from Riz Consultancy, conducted a visit to the Health Facility Nothia Jadeed in Peshawar. The visit was facilitated by Program Coordinator Dr. Junaid.
During the visit, Galway expressed appreciation for the facility’s performance and highlighted several key strengths including:
- The accuracy and efficiency of the vaccination documentation.
- The turnout at the fixed vaccination site and overall patient engagement.
- Availability of essential medicines and well-presented IEC materials
A detailed discussion was held in the Polio Support Room, where Galway was briefed on the health facility’s role in supporting polio eradication efforts. The team discussed coordination between Polio Field Teams and MERF outreach staff, emphasizing collaborative outreach, regular data sharing, and strategies to address vaccine refusals through SBCC interventions. The delegation was also informed about the appointment of fixed focal points during polio campaigns to ensure that no child is missed. Additionally, insights were shared on the organization and deployment of Polio teams to cover relevant catchment areas during campaign days. Galway interacted with the Lady Health Counsellor (LHC) and assessed and appreciated her knowledge about vaccination schedule and card.
The visit concluded with constructive feedback and recognition of the facility’s dedicated efforts in advancing polio campaign support.
