MERF Organizes Seminar on Breastfeeding Awareness Month in Peshawar
merf-pakistanIn connection with Breastfeeding Awareness Month, a seminar was organized by MERF in Peshawar, attended by Special Advisor to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Health, Ihtisham Ali, as the chief guest. The event focused on raising awareness about the crucial role of breastfeeding in improving maternal and child health.
Speaking at the seminar, the Health Advisor emphasized that:
“Breastfeeding is a fundamental investment in the health, nutrition, and cognitive development of future generations. The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will continue to support policies that promote breastfeeding and strengthen maternal and child health services.”
Dr. Syed Shah Miran, CEO of MERF, highlighted the organization’s efforts, stating:
“MERF has always placed maternal and child health at the top of its priorities. Through partnership with the KP Government, we have strengthened nutrition, immunization, and maternal health programs. Particularly in the nutrition sector, MERF continues to provide technical support and effective collaboration at both provincial and national levels.”
A panel of health experts, including Dr. Fazal Majeed (Director Nutrition, KP), Prof. Dr. Fawad Haider Khan (Religious Scholar), Dr. Bawar Shah (President, Pakistan Pediatric Association), Dr. Samreen (Gynecologist, MERF), Dr. Maqsood Ali (PHA Representative), and Dr. Inamullah (UNICEF), shared insights on the medical, social, and public health importance of breastfeeding.
Concluding the seminar, the Health Advisor praised MERF’s efforts and called upon government institutions, medical professionals, and civil society to work collectively for the promotion of breastfeeding and the well-being of mothers and children.
