Pakistan Floods 2025 : MERF, KP Government & KPHF on the ground to Deliver Emergency Medical Relief in Flood-Hit Buner

MERF, in close coordination & support of the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Foundation (KPHF), mobilizes an emergency response to support flood-affected populations in Buner district, one of the hardest-hit areas of KP.

To respond to these urgent needs especially emergency medical health services provision to flood affected population, MERF with its partners established a 10-day Emergency Medical Camp in Buner, with the following provisions:

As reported by both national and international situation updates, the recent monsoon floods (during 15–19 August 2025) have resulted in more than 234 deaths and over 128 injured (*PDMA) in Buner alone, alongside widespread destruction of homes, schools, health facilities, and water systems. Communities remain displaced and without access to essential services such as safe water, sanitation, and healthcare

  • Qualified medical teams, including doctors, paramedics, and support staff, to provide emergency care, trauma management, maternal and child health services, and treatment for waterborne and vector-borne diseases.
  • Equipped with essential medicines including antibiotics, pain relief, fluids, ORS, antiseptics, diagnostic kits, and vaccines, to address infections, diarrheal diseases, respiratory illnesses, and other acute conditions including snake & dogs bite vaccination commonly reported after floods
  • Clean water supply and WASH support, including provision of safe drinking water, hygiene awareness, and water purification supplies to reduce the risk of outbreaks of acute watery diarrhea, malaria, and dengue
  • Emergency preparedness and disease surveillance in coordination with district health authorities to monitor and respond to potential public health threats.

This joint effort builds existing footprint of emergency response of MERF partnership in KP and aligns with the KP Government’s declared emergency and Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) response framework, which prioritizes medical relief, clean water, shelter, and food support in the hardest-hit districts

By working together — MERF, KP Government, KPHF, and local partners — this emergency camp aims to provide immediate, life-saving relief to the most vulnerable families in Buner.
