MERF Emergency Winter Relief Response in Khyber District

Amid severe winter conditions, heavy snowfall, and harsh weather in the Tirah Valley of Khyber District, the MERF swiftly mobilized its emergency response teams to assist in the safe evacuation of internally displaced persons (IDPs) who were stranded along snowbound routes. MERF in coordination with district administration & health authorities has mobilized its emergency teams to support internally displaced and weather-affected families stranded along transit routes and temporary settlements. Essential medicines were distributed among the IDPs to address common and immediate health needs.  Category – D Hospital Bazar Zaka Khel managed by MERF, in Khyber district is ready to tackle any emergency.

Despite freezing temperatures and difficult terrain, MERF field teams are on the ground reaching vulnerable IDPs and travelers, providing immediate relief and essential medical support & coordinating with local stakeholders to ensure safety and continuity of care.

According to on-ground assessments, more than 7,500 IDPs from Tirah, particularly from the Maidan area, have been displaced, with women, children, the elderly, and patients with chronic illnesses identified as the most vulnerable and in urgent need of medical and humanitarian support.
