Transforming Maternal Health in Sindh Through IFA Tablet Distribution

In Sindh’s flood-affected districts, MERF is working to improve maternal health through the distribution of Iron and Folic Acid (IFA) tablets. These tablets are crucial in preventing maternal anemia, a condition that can lead to severe complications during pregnancy.

One such success story is that of Shahida, a 28-year-old pregnant woman from Village Abdul Kareem Shoro, District Thatta. When Shahida met MERF’s IYCF Counselor Zaib Shah, she was struggling with severe swelling in her feet, affecting her ability to manage daily activities. After learning about the benefits of IFA tablets, Shahida decided to try them, and within a month, she experienced significant improvements.

“I can manage my chores now, the swelling is gone, and I have a good appetite,” Shahida exclaimed, grateful for the support she received.

MERF is implementing the UNICEF-funded project titled “Nutrition Emergency Response in Flood-Affected Districts of Sindh” across four districts in Sindh. The primary goal of this nutrition-focused intervention is to reduce maternal and child mortality, morbidity, and disability by enhancing access to life-saving nutrition services.
